The Superfast Broadband (SFBB) voucher is an intervention of the “National Broadband Next Generation Access Plan 2014-2020” designed by the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts of the Ministry of Digital Policy Telecommunications and Information.
Objective of action
Enhancing demand for online access services at ultra high speed Internet speeds of 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps with the subsidized “Superfast Broadband Voucher” to bridging the country’s digital division and improving its performance in the EU digital map, as well as familiarizing citizens with next generation networks.
SFBB Action is part of a set of projects of the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information that will significantly contribute to the country’s convergence and alignment with the Digital Agenda for Europe – DAE 2020 and the GigabitSociety 2025 Plan, which sets ambitious connectivity goals (speeds of 1Gbps, as opposed to 100Mbps projected by the 2020 targets) and 5G network development.
The SFBB service is estimated to provide Internet access at ultra-fast speeds to about 150,000 citizens. The Action is expected to create the critical mass of users for the adoption and expansion of new generation broadband services in Greece, detaching the country from the last position (28th) in the ranking of the EU countries in the use of ultra-high speed communications networks by households (0.01% of households)[1].
